My Story

As a young aspiring Jr. tennis player,  I started experiencing debilitating lower back pain, which worsened to the point where I couldn’t put any weight on my left leg. After seeing various Orthopaedic Specialist and multiple scans, I was diagnosed with a fracture in my vertebrae, putting me in a restraining brace from my chest to my left knee for 4 months. After seeking a 2nd opinion from Back and Spine Specialists, my only diagnosis was to rest and maintain mild exercise. Six months later, the specialist's advice resulted in no improvement with the symptoms only getting worse.

Being extremely frustrated and worried about the future, I was advised to see a Chinese Medicine practitioner. Having never had any experience with alternative medicinal treatments, I was extremely skeptical. With nothing to lose, I decided to give it a  try. The Chinese Medicine Practitioner placed acupuncture needles on my back and legs together with electro-stimulation. With no feeling of improvement, I let out months of frustration. I was amazed, by his calmness never forgetting him saying: "It is just as I suspected, your disharmony is not in your back, it is in your digestive system". I was absolutely shocked.

He instructed me to lie down, and proceeded to insert 15 needles to the palm of my hand. Hitting the 15th needle, my stomach was spinning, I started sweating. To him, this was completely normal. He then asked me: "How is your back?" I looked at my father with tears and said: "THE PAIN IS GONE!" It was at that very moment that I was swept away by the 'magic' of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

MOXIBUSION

Moxibustion is regarded as acupuncture's "older sister". It has been around long before acupuncture appeared. It involves the burning of a plant called mugwort on different acupoints and locations on the body in order to generate heat and influence our Qi.

ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is the use of very fine needles to influence the entire body through special points known as the acupoints.

Shonishin is a Japanese method that uses non-invasive needle therapy to treat babies and children.

HERBAL MEDICINE
TUINA & CUPPING

Herbal Medicine works similarly to acupuncture but in opposite directions. Acupuncture focuses on the energetic level and works from the outside inwards, while herbal medicine focuses on the internal organs and works from the inside outwards. By using different herbs and formulas we can improve the efficacy of the treatment.

Tuina is a form of Chinese physical therapy and Qigong (Qi – vital energy/life force, gong - work) energy medicine. It is similar to acupuncture only there are no needles involved. Instead, there is the use of different manual techniques in order to influence our Qi and bring about healing.

Cupping involves the use of glass cups on different acupoints (i.e. locations) of the body.

This is a very safe and effective method of treatment and is used in cases such as: relaxing stiff muscles, improving mobility, strengthening and invigorating, expelling pathogenic Qi, calming the Spirit and detoxifying. You may be left with some marks for a few days.

TAIJI QUAN & QI GONG

Using ancient Chinese techniques, we will learn how to influence and improve our flow of QI, restore our health and improve our wellbeing both physically and mentally.

NUTRITION

"Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food" - Hippocrates.

East Asian Medicine places great importance on the food we eat, the quantity we eat, and how we eat. By using both Conventional biomedical knowledge together with traditional East Asian knowledge, we can customize your diet to fit you and your goals.

Conditions Treated

East Asian medicine has a very different, holistic approach than modern medicine. Here everything is connected and one aspect of the body influences the rest and vice versa. This means that the conditions are referred to in a different manner since traditional oriental medicine looks for the imbalances in the person and corrects them.

There are a number of commonly seen conditions in the East Asian Medicine clinic including:

  • Musculoskeletal conditions: pain, vertebral disc degeneration, stiffness, impaired mobility, orthopedic conditions.

  • Digestive conditions – IBS, IBD, bloating, flatulence, constipation, diarrhea, indigestion.

  • Gynecological conditions – infertility, PMS, period issues, menopause.

  • Urogenital conditions – painful urination, nocturia (nighttime urination), frequent urination, incontinence, urinary/kidney infections.

  • Respiratory conditions – asthma, bronchitis, common cold, influenza (commonly known as the 'flu'), and hay fever.

  • Dermatological conditions – eczema, acne, urticaria, rash, allergies.

  • Autoimmune conditions - Rheumatoid Arthritis, Irritable Bowel Disease (Crohn's, Ulcerative Colitis), Psoriasis

  • Mental/emotional – stress, anxiety, depression.

  • Headaches, migraines

  • Chronic fatigue syndrome

  • Meniere's disease

  • Facial paralysis (bell's palsy).

  • Weight loss and maintenance

  • General wellbeing

He is extremely knowledgeable and was explaining everything along the way. Definitely recommend.
